It seemed as though Jesse Lingard had got his Premier League career back on track after a brilliant six months on loan at West Ham.
The Englishman joined the
Hammers in the January transfer window after failing to make a Premier League
appearance for the Red Devils in 2020-21, and went on to provide nine goals and
five assists in his 15 appearances for David Moyes’ side, helping them to
Europa League football.
Mirror reported that Jesse
Lingard will leave Manchester United in January to rescue his chances of going
to the 2022 World Cup. He is unhappy with his role in the squad and wants to
play regularly.
So far this campaign,
however, it has been a return to status quo, with Lingard having seen just 55
minutes of Premier League action across 4 appearances, although he has scored
twice in that time.
With a World Cup looming in
12 months time, it seems certain that to rescue any chances of being on the
plane to Qatar, Lingard needs to play more football than he is currently doing,
which may mean a move away come January.
Everton leading the race for Lingard’s
signature
Now, as per Football Insider,
it is Everton that Jesse Lingard would prefer, rather than a return to the
London stadium, despite the Toffees having no European football.
As per the report, Lingard would
prefer to remain in the north-west, handing Rafa Benitez’s side the initiative.
With Everton lacking creativity while West Ham have signed Nikola Vlasic to
replace Lingard, a move to Everton would make sense.
Would it be enough to get him
into the England squad for the World Cup?
